Citizen journalism is the The public playing an active role in collecting and reporting of news being distributed worldwide, whether it is being reported through a phone video or just a statement of an outsiders opinion of the situation, it is still seen as citizen journalism.

The individual recording of this United Airline event was shared through social media platforms allowed citizen journalism to take place. The recording and the opinions on the situation became viral which led to an investigation of the situation.
